Daouda lives with his family in France. His son Malik wants to marry Mariama. But Daouda finds out that their families belong to two different castes: He is a griot, while the others are nobles. Daouda is proud of his heritage, which is passed down from generation to generation. But his son takes a fundamentally different view and insists on his freedom…

DEMBA KONATE began making films as a self-taught filmmaker in 2014 during the Génération Court film festival in Aubervilliers. He has a master’s degree in political science, is a social worker and works with prisoners at the Pôle Emploi to help them reintegrate into society. In 2015, Demba was selected to take part in the Côté Court film festival. There he wrote his first short film WE ARE GRIOTS, which premiered at the Vues d’Afrique film festival in Montréal in 2023. He is currently working on the project SOFIA about a young woman who is trying to find her way back to a normal life after her prison sentence.
